A Flock In The Tickle of the Wind

A Flock in the Tickle of the Wind tells the story of Allegro, a Azores bullfinch, who was born deaf, and how his parents, community and peers react to his being “different”. Some of the subjects covered in this book are the development of a form of sign communication, prejudice against disability, and the importance of friendship and a sense of belonging for personal growth and well-being, which occurs when Allegro meets two other deaf birds, Chico, the Saffron finch, and Melro-negro, the Blackbird.

At a time when “Inclusion” is being legislated, this was the book that was missing “to make waves”. Susana Almeida Rodrigues brings us the issue of deafness is na unusual way to what has been presented to date.
